Somewhere, in an outer borough of New York City...

…that’s where I’ll be…at least, spiritually. ;-)

In lieu of a road trip (have you seen the bloody price of gasoline lately!?!), my friend and I are going to see the outrageous Broadway musical hit Avenue Q.

Never heard of Avenue Q? Well, think of a version of Sesame Street for 20 year olds…both a hommage and a satire. It’s a musical that deals with racism, porn, sexual identity, and revels in the blistering comedy of its adult language and (deep breath…) full puppet nudity.

Yes, you read that correctly. If you have fond memories of The Muppet Show, it would be best to put those aside and enter the theatre with an open mind. :D

I’m looking forward to this. I haven’t been to the theatre since seeing Paul Gross’ Hamlet at Stratford eight years ago…and I haven’t seen a musical since I went to the original Canadian run of Les Miserables in 1990. Besides, HOW can you resist a musical with songs such as “What Do You Do with a BA in English”, “Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist”, and “I’m Not Wearing Underwear Today”. If there was ever a production designed for 25-35 year olds, then it’s THIS one!

That said, I’ll give you my verdict after showtime, next Wednesday. Stay tuned…
