"Stand by for attack!"

The 4-part, 1966 Doctor Who story The War Machines was a landmark in many ways. It introduced a popular new pair of companions, it featured one of the largest uses of location footage in the series to date…

…and it was also the first story set in (then) modern-day London, making it a template for much of the iconic Doctor Who still to come, from the UNIT days of the early 1970s all the way to the recent two parter The Sontaran Stratagem/The Poison Sky.

Alien or Earthbound threats in conflict with the Doctor on our home turf…this the Doctor Who many of us remember from our childhood, and it begins with The War Machines.

Actually, the story might just be worth it for the reaction to the First Doctor’s entry into a swinging-sixties nightclub. ;-)

With the arrival of the DVD in the UK (and likely in early 2009 in Canada), the Restoration Team — responsible for taking archived Doctor Who tapes and making them look stunningly new and fresh — have offered this ridiculously exciting coming soon trailer for us to enjoy. So, by all means, please do! :D
