As I slowly but surely regain my health (drain, sinuses…DRAIN), here are some recent-ish thoughts…
(1) THE KING IS DEAD, LONG LIVE THE KING
It’s not every day that one of my suggestions comes true so swiftly. :D
Stephane Dion is gone…and Michael Ignatieff now leads the Liberal Party. Perhaps, within the next six weeks, he will become our next Prime Minister…
I’m still not quite a cheerleader, but I will say this: watching Ignatieff’s press conference…watching his interview with Don Newman on CBC Newsworld’s Politics…it’s clearly evident that Stephen Harper is going to face a man of extraordinary confidence, eloquence, clarity and steel. This is a man who has no time for the Mugabe-style fillibustering of our so-called leader…and is willing to pull the plug when (and if) the time is right. To put it in blunt terms: Harper’s Sword of Damocles has very likely materialized.
Frankly…the only thing I’ll say with confidence is: AT LAST!
(2) THE AWARD FOR MOST OVER-USED LINE GOES TO…
“Coalition if necessary, but not necessarily a coalition.”
If I hear that phrase ONE MORE TIME, someone WILL die! Horribly and terribly…and probably at the receving end of a big stick! That I will happily swing…
Mackenzine King must be spinning in his grave…but I’ll ask him myself at tomorrow’s seance…just to be sure. ;-)
(3) SPEAKING OF FECKLESS LEADER…
Did you watch his interview with Peter Mansbridge on last night’s broadcast of The National? It’s bad enough that his idea of reaching out to the opposition amounted to “well…come on your hands and knees, and I’ll be waiting”…but THEN he followed it up with a DEFENCE of the Liberals themselves! (PAUSE for serious, disbelieving BLINKING!) From the black, echoing maw of a man pathological obsessed with the destruction of the very same Liberals? It was like watching Joe McCarthy working up enthusiasm for members of the Communist Party!
Feckless Leader should just take that step into the abyss now…hopefully, he’ll wake up in the TRUE Bizzaro-World…and not the one he believes is THIS country!
And now…back to the DRAINING! :-/
