My Big Fat Japanese Adventure - Part 6: OSAKA

Osaka is the city that radiated the most Toronto-ish vibes…that is, if Toronto had more rivers, extra bridges, every back alley filled with retail wonder, and a thousand spare years of history.

OSAKA CASTLE

It’s been through many reconstructions over the centuries. As it currently exists, it’s primarily a fun-filled museum, and nowhere near as full of historical charm as many of its sister sites in Kyoto. That said, its sheer size and scale more than make up for any drawbacks…and the views of the city from the top level are breathtaking.

DOTOMBORI

Osaka’s answer to Tokyo’s Ueno. It’s just as busy, with just as much eye candy…and just as many options for retail therapy. :D

THE UMEDA SKY BUILDING

A futuristic arc de triomphe, made out of steel and glass…with transparent elevators, escalators and observation decks that aren’t recommended for those with vertigo…

So…there you have it. The edited highlights of my big fat Japanese adventure. At this point, I’ll take a break from travel blogs, but my overall summation of the experience will be coming. Keep a sharp eye open… ;-)
