A Revision Is Necessary...

…to my recent rating of Star Trek…for a number of reasons.

First of all, I’ve seen Star Trek THREE (yes 3) times now…and I think I enjoyed it even more on my third viewing than I did on opening night. So much richness to be found, so much depth…and in spite of all my mournful misgivings about a revised or re-booted timeline, there is not denying that it works. It works fabulously…and I was definitely too hard on it, old-school Trekkie that I am.

Secondly, I’m forced to compare it to Wolvervine (which I will rant about more in a forthcoming review)…and all I can say is that in the span of two hours, Star Trek manages to deliver a much more satisfying, epic, emotional, triumphant story than Wolverine could muster on its best day. That’s the polite description, to say the least…especially considering that the opening 10 minute section of JJ Abram’s opus, showcasing the attack on the USS Kelvin, is a better movie on its own than ALL 118 minutes of Wolverine!

So…new STAR TREK rating? A solid 9 out of 10

The Wolverine rating? It will come…and it will be low. Perhaps not crypt-level…but approaching the subterranean…
