Crabby Old Fart, indeed!

Today was the type of day when you realize just how close it is to summer holidays. Yet there remains the feeling that a lifetime needs to be crossed in order to reach the finish line. Students are tired…I’M tired…and we’re all slouching to the end with as much energy and initiative as we (or is it just me?) can muster.

So, what to do for some sharp mental distraction? To take the mind off the mundane, mindless acceptance of the “meh” world around us? Look no further than a new blog, brought to my attention by my friend Corey

It’s called THE PROBLEM WITH YOUNG PEOPLE TODAY IS…and it’s completely hilarious. An old codger, using the internet to grumble about the kids of today, and reminiscing about the “good old days”…or, at the very least, that’s what we’re expected to think. True grumpy old man or not, there are some lovely, biting, side-splitting commentaries to be found on issues with the young. My favourite comes from an entry entitled God Damned Young People and Their “Disorders” Drive Me Crazy…and here’s the best part:

I don’t understand it. If one of the kids in my school behaved strangely we didn’t send them him off to a headshrinker and a pharmacologist for a label and a half dozen vials of pills - we just called him “Spaz”, lowered our expectations and moved on with life.

If I had ever come home and told my old mom that I couldn’t do my chores because I had “oppositional defiant disorder” and “Munchausen by proxy”, she would have beaten me bloody with a melon baller and been right to do so.

It was enough to make me snort uncontrollably…so very refreshing! :D

Enjoy it…it’s makes a delightful change of pace from the hazy limbo many of us find ourselves in at this time of year. You might also discover you’ve become an old codger before your time. ;-)
