It’s always pleasant to wake up to the international stations broadcast by CBC Radio in its overnight hours. Mind you, listening to the bulk of it implies (rather correctly) that I’m suffering some high quality insomnia…but I’m usually rewarded with some juicy tidbit of information that’s ignored by the North American media.
Sometimes…these juicy tidbits really tick me off!
So…I wake up the other day (yes, yes..insomnia wins again) to the international service of Radio DW (that’s Deutsche Welle of Germany to all you neophytes)…and here’s the horrific ridiculousness I’m rewarded with (courtesy of this Radio Poland story link)….
RUSSIAN TV - ‘Poland planned to invade USSR’
Russian state television has broadcast a report in which it accuses Poland of collaboration with Nazi Germany against the Soviet Union. The report says that the government in Warsaw was in a secret alliance with Nazi Germany and japan to invade the Soviet Union.
Today Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusians celebrate National Remembrance and Mourning Day to commemorate victims of WW II, popularly known as the Great Patriotic War. To mark the occasion, as well as the 70th anniversary of the signing of Ribbentrop-Molotow pact, Russian television has broadcast a reportage which claims to reveal a “great mystery”.
The journalists claim that it was not Molotow’s intention to sign the pact with the Third Reich - an agreement which effectively sealed Poland fate - but he was forced to do so because the USSR was in danger from an invasion by Poland. They cite documents, yet to be made public, which “prove” that Poles conspired with the Nazis and planned to attack the Soviet Union. Japan was also involved in the plot and its role was to invade the eastern borders of the USRR. The report “clearly shows” that the Ribbentrop - Molotow pact was a necessity, saving the USRR from Poland’s aggression and helped regain indigenous Russian lands, which had been seized by Poland.
Poland’s embassy in Moscow has said it will take necessary steps in response to the allegations.
So…regarding this…whatever it is…for it’s not truth…certainly, not as we measure it in this reality. Any recently murdered journalist in Russia - trying to spread truth - could attest to this fact. IF they were still around…
This travesty comes from a nation that tends to rewrite its history using tried and true methods such as intimidation, violence, and mass murder. This from a nation that is recently re-characterizing Joseph Stalin (a man who has more blood on his hands than Hitler…an astonishing achievement) as a “skillful manager”? Any day now, I expect the 12th century Mongol Hordes to be rewarded with a monument in Red Square! Generations of my ancestors are rolling in their graves…many of them put there by such “skillful” Russian managers.
Hell, I’m surprised there was no mention of Zionist Jews as part of this plot. Aren’t they always being blamed for everything from 9/11 to poor crops to bad breath? Why stop now…?
Sometimes I wonder why I get out of bed in the morning. I could go into history teacher mode and TRY to excoriate this ridiculous report with every fibre of my being. Then again, I could simply let it sit here and stew in its own revolting, mendacious bile. But let’s leave the final word to someone who commented on the Radio Poland news article:

Who needs truth when expedient politics will do just fine. Vladimir Putin learned it long ago…and that’s why he’s still in charge…and will be for many years to come. Woe betide us all. :-/
