The Polish Adventure 4: Return to Sandomierz

Well…our return trip was MORE than worth it…

(1) THE CATHEDRAL…RE-VISITED

One half of the cathedral was under wraps, in the midst of a massive renovation. The other half was renovated within the last ten years. How can I tell? Because, in this cathedral, history didn’t bleed from the walls…so much as SCREAM at the top of its lungs! Bold, solid gothic architecture, enhanced with the most brilliant, vibrant baroque gildling. I simply didn’t want to leave…and I have to shake my head at the thought that even more MAGNIFICENT spectacles are still to come!

(2) CHORAGIEW RYCERSTWA ZIEMI SANDOMERSKIEJ

Summed up simply (in English) it means “military history museum of the region”. A small, out of the way location, in a historic bunker/cellar, operated for the benefit of Polish soliders (all donations welcome), it was a FABULOUS place. I wish I could take my ancient history classes to see it: lots of medieval and renaissance weaponry on display, and lots of opportunities to wield them and play dress up. If you ever had dreams of engaging in battle with the charging hordes of the Imperial Ottoman, Swedish, Russian or Austrian armies, or Tartars & Teutonic Knights of days gone by…THIS is the place to indulge yourself…as I certainly did!
