The Polish Adventure 8: The Wieliczka Salt Mine

Well, a few things to share…aside from the fact that I have unexpectedly fast computer access once again…

(1) It took FOREVER to drive to Krakow today, as the entire country seems to be subjected to road works hell!

(2) With less time than hoped for, all we managed to do today was take part in a guided tour of the most famous salt mine in the world…

WIELICZKA is something you need to READ about…I can’t do justice to this UNESCO World Hertiage Site with my own words. Suffice to say, we plunged almost 200 meters into a centuries-old salt mine that has been transformed into a natural museum (thanks to the remaining salt deposits and vertigo-defying vistas)…AND a man-made gallery, where everything from the statues to a GIANT functioning chapel has been carved out of the rock salt by the miners, over the course of 300+ years.

So enjoy a selection of photos from our visit…most of which actually turned out well, considering how low the light levels were in the galleries.
