Labour Day BLAH

It’s always boring, dull, and uninspiring (feel free to email me and add suitable adjectives). Add to that the lack of sleep I’m going to suffer tonight, and it’s a holiday I’m always delighted to see fade into the mist…

…and before you ask, I never sleep before the first day of school. The brain is too busy with possibilities to relax.

I’m feeling particularly uninspired today, and I’m not sure why…in spite of the fact that I had two wonderful conversations with past students of mine over the last few days, in which some of my old-school political rantiness resurfaced.

Mind you, everything seems like an anti-climax to me, ever since we came home from Poland. Three weeks of criss-crossing my mother’s homeland has left the rest of the summer feeling…beige. As beige as all the neutral living rooms being showcased on Home and Garden Television. As the school year comes upon me once more, the beige feels all-encompassing.

And yet, I do know that the fall will bring a great deal of excitement: new episodes of Doctor Who & The Sarah Jane Adventures to satisfy my geek gene, a new baby for my sister that will turn our family’s life topsy-turvy, last minute recruitment for my London/Paris trip NEXT summer…even ANOTHER federal election to whine and complain about (in a typically Canadian way).

Frankly, it seems as if existence is holding its breath…and refusing to let go. Time to poke the cheeks of reality and get it over with…
