How does the new DOCTOR WHO logo stack up?

dwlogou1a.jpg

Well, the full version follows the classic series logo design…smaller sized “Doctor” stacked on top of a large “WHO” — something the fiery Eccleston/Tennant lozenge abandoned for the first and only time in the series’ history. I’ve seen many people on the net play with this new logo, in order to make it flow out of the howlarounds of the classic black-and-white-era title sequences. There’s a distinct element of timelessness, mixed in with a deft dose of nostalgia. I believe the producers of 60s Doctor Who would approve.

I’m not quite so crazy about the actual font being used, or the ubiquitous lens-flare so many early 21st graphic designers seem to have turned into a fetish…but I’m sure it will grow on me…eventually.

On the other hand, I adore the TARDIS-shaped micro-version of the logo, which will be great for the books and DVDs. A stroke of genius.

My favourite logo remains the neon-1980s version, but as the Doctor himself once said, life depends upon change and renewal. A fresh new logo to herald the arrival of a fresh new Doctor…can you blame it if there seems to be a literal glow of anticipation? ;-)
