…it only took me a decade!
I finally bit the bullet. As a Christmas present to myself, I went out and bought a new LCD flat screen TV — a Samsung 32 inch beauty.

And I must say…the entire world feels different. But it has nothing to do with the picture, amazing and clear though it is.
It also has nothing to do with the fact that I have to manipulate MORE buttons, especially to customize screen sizes between old school TV channels, HD channels, and my DVD player. At times, it feels like the manipulation of a mini-orchestra, in the middle of a bizzare electronic symphony.
It has everything to do with the fact that it’s so SLIM! It takes up very little space. It feels as if a void has suddenly opened up where my old television used to sit. My old beast of a television was so big that it acted as a second shelf…so tall that it was a distinct PRESENCE in the room.
My new TV is positively ethereal. It floats on its swivel stand, glowing with newness and self-satisfied smugness at its complete and total superiority to CRT technology.
My entire living room looks and feels so much…brighter. So much cleaner…
There’s only one problem: where the hell do I put my mini-Christmas tree and stereo?!? I’ve suddenly run out of storage space!! This new TV means I have to go shopping for MORE furniture.
Add “insidious” to my new TV’s list of qualities…
